Arc2TatukGIS is a free plug-in designed for Esri’s legacy ArcMap software that allows users to export an entire ArcGIS project into a TatukGIS-compatible project format. It serves as an interoperability bridge, enabling teams utilizing diverse GIS environments to share map projects seamlessly without losing styling and structure.
The tool was originally developed by TatukGIS customer Idan Computers Ltd. and was later contributed to the official TatukGIS 3rd Party Products Library for public distribution. Key Capabilities
Converts Project Data: Translates map properties from an ArcGIS .mxd file into a TatukGIS .ttkgp project file.
Preserves Symbology: Retains vital cartographic properties including labels, line widths, point symbols, color fills, and map scales.
Standardizes Formats: Converts source ArcGIS vector layers into standard Shapefile (.shp) format layers.
Retains Raster Integrity: Integrates raster images into the newly generated TatukGIS project in their native, original file format.
Maintains Extents: Allows users to lock down and define a specific map extent or boundary window for the exported project.
Validates Geometries: Inspects spatial features during the export loop to find and bypass any corrupted geometric data. Why Organizations Use It
The primary benefit of Arc2TatukGIS is cost-effective project distribution. When paired with the free TatukGIS Viewer, ArcGIS operators can hand over their maps to any client or stakeholder. The recipient can open the project file on a standard Windows computer with a single click—fully rendered with its original styling—without requiring an expensive Esri license.
The exported files can also be opened by advanced platforms like the TatukGIS Editor or custom software built via the TatukGIS Developer Kernel (SDK).
Note: Because Arc2TatukGIS was built for legacy ArcMap (which was retired by Esri), it is distributed by TatukGIS as a free, unsupported product. If you are looking to deploy this tool, please let me know: Which version of ArcMap you are running?
