Whether you’re building assets for The Sandbox or creating your own voxel art, mastering VoxEdit requires a mix of good modeling habits and efficient workflows. The following 5 pro-tips will help you build faster, animate smoother, and structure your voxel creations like a pro: 1. Master the Shift + Create/Erase Shortcut

When working in the Modeler’s Create or Erase modes, you don’t need to manually switch tools every time you want to fix a mistake.

The Trick: Hold down the Shift key to temporarily switch to the opposite action. If you’re currently placing voxels with the Pen tool, holding Shift will turn it into an Eraser. Release Shift, and you’re right back to building. 2. Take Advantage of the Pivot Point Tool First

Every individual model layer (or node) you create rotates around a specific pivot point in the Modeler tab.

The Trick: Before you begin building appendages like arms, legs, or doors, drag your pivot point to the exact spot where the joint or hinge will be. Doing this at the start makes the rigging and animation process drastically easier when you take your model into the Animator module. 3. Build Simpler 3D Shapes (Use 2D Texturing)

The Sandbox engine performs best when assets run fast. Instead of painstakingly building intricate 3D shapes one voxel at a time, build a simpler 3D outline and use colors to add the depth and detail.

The Trick: Utilize the Face Tool and the Paint Tool to color individual flat planes on your basic box model. Creating visual depth with color rather than building 50 tiny 3D nooks ensures your games run smoother and allows you to use more assets and logic. 4. Duplicate Inverse Kinematics (IK) Chains

Setting up a rigged character for animation can be tedious, but VoxEdit features an IK system that calculates the joint movements for you.

The Trick: To save time, build the IK chain for just one leg or arm first, and test it to make sure it functions correctly. Once verified, you can duplicate that IK chain to the other side of the body. This will give you a fully functional, mirrored rig with half the work. 5. Memorize Essential Camera Shortcuts

Navigating your workspace quickly saves massive amounts of time. Instead of constantly hunting for icons on the screen, use these basic technical commands: Rotate Camera: Hold Alt + Left-click. Pan Camera: Hold Alt + Right-click. Zoom: Scroll your mouse wheel up/down.

Flying Mode: Press Q to fly around your model, and use WASD + Shift to navigate.
